fungus? #887578

Asked October 09, 2024, 3:07 PM EDT

I have attached photos of our serviceberry tree. It is probably ten years old ... something like that. It has always thrived in the location where it is planted. This past summer was okay, but not its best. I notice there is like a fungus, or some such thing, growing all over the bark. Is that something we should endeavor to eliminate? If so, how do you recommend we do that?

Expert Response

Good afternoon,

The white growth on the stem is lichen. I will not harm the tree:

This was a dry summer. You can water and fertilize if you wish.
