Spots on hydrangeas and ajuga died in draught #886443

Asked September 25, 2024, 2:05 PM EDT

All my hydrangeas got black spots all over the leaves. Southern States told me to use a copper spray, which I did, but they also said to remove all the leaves. My husband wants to cut it back to the ground but last time that was done. It didn’t bloom for 3 years. Do the leaves fall off in the winter? If so, do I just Rake them up and dispose of them or what? Anything else I should do?

Also, when it was really hot, large pieces of my ajuga which was all along my walk, died. It doesn’t seem to be filling back in. What should I do To restore it?

Update. Here are more pictures of my ajuga. It used to be a solid mat about 18” wide along my whole walk. Now large sections are dead. Some sections appear matted and others are being taken over by weeds. See pictures. Correction: file upload error for pics.
