Grass for in pasture #885671

Asked September 18, 2024, 9:29 AM EDT

Looking for help on pasture that was overgrazed with now a lot of sagebrush. We are trying to get elk and deer and cow grazing for free range cows grass seed to start that will help all the animals. I am scraping off sagebrush. Any grass blend I can buy in bulk you suggest we are dry and south of Pagosa springs zone 5.

Expert Response

Hello Aimee,
The San Juan Conservtion District on Piedra Rd sells grass seed in bulk, and so does the Basin Coop in Durango.  Either one of these places will be able to help you find the information you are looking for.  I would caution against clearing your field of all sage.  The bushes will help keep moisture on the land and scraping the ground can cause erosion problems and soil depletion.
