16 Quart Presto Pressure Canner Gauge Calibration #885528

Asked September 17, 2024, 8:05 AM EDT

Hello, I'm new to canning. I just purchased a 16-quart Presto pressure canner. I've been told I need to have the pressure gauge calibrated. Can you please let me know where I can take the pressure gauge to have it calibrated? Thank you, John Callahan

Expert Response

Hello John,

Thanks for reaching out to the UNH Extension Infoline. We offer a couple of options for pressure gauge testing. First, you can bring your gauge to our office in Goffstown-

329 Mast Rd, Suite 115, Goffstown, NH 03045

Or you can mail it to the above address c/o Sean O'Brien. Please include a check for return shipping if you choose to mail it to us.

If you want to come by our office, just shoot me another email with when you're likely to swing by so I can make sure I am available or one of my colleagues is here when you arrive.

Hi Sean,

I can bring it to your office.

What days and times is the office open?  About how long does it take to calibrate the pressure gauge?

Do I need the entire pressure canner or just the gauge?

Thank you for the quick response.

John

Hi John,

We are usually in the office from 8:30 to 4:00 M-F but sometimes we have off-site meetings so please let me know when you plant to come by.

It only takes about 5-10 minutes to test the gauge. Just to be clear, I am not able to calibrate gauges, I can only test it for accuracy against a master. If it does not pass, I will recommend sending it to Presto for service. I don't need the whole canner, just the gauge itself.

Hi Sean,

Would Friday afternoon work for you?  Around 3pm?

John
