Hive bug #885353

Asked September 15, 2024, 9:36 PM EDT

When inspecting a hive last week I saw a bug that had legs on one side just like a Varroa Mite but was larger, about one eighth to three sixteenths long and slightly narrower. Reminded me of a small crab. It was dark in color. Sorry, no pictures. No camera.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. I'm not aware of any hive pests that fit with your description. Sometimes other insect species can end up in a hive or use the hive as shelter.

Here is a link of honey bee hive pests: A Quick Reference Guide to Honey Bee Parasites, Pests, Predators, and Diseases (psu.edu).

If you see it again, I'd love to see a photo!
