Transplanting sedum #885340

Asked September 15, 2024, 6:58 PM EDT

Hi I have a whole lot of sedum that I need to divide and share. My question is if I cut it back and then divide it and replant the Roots/base only will it be successful? In the past I've always just split it in the fall when the entire plant is blooming and left it that way. Occurs to me it would be easier to work with/transport if I cut it back first.

Thank you for your question for Extension. Yes, you are correct. I would cut back your sedum before transplanting and moving it because it's less stressful on the plant and it has a greater chance of success. Now is a good time to do that if you complete it in the next couple of weeks. Good luck and happy gardening!
