Wet soil #885338

Asked September 15, 2024, 6:40 PM EDT

I recently had some landscaping done, removing weeds with heavy machinery. They added top soil which is absorbing a lot of water. In fact, my feet are sinking a few inches into the soil. What amendments would I add to make it more suitable for planting? How would these amendments impact the soil ph? Thank you.

Hi Sharon,

Thank you for contacting us! I am sending you an article that suggests amendments but also gives suggestions for planting in wet soil.

Our sources say compost is the best method of improving drainage for wet soil.

Thank you and let me know if I can help in any other way!

Hi Sharon,
I forgot to tell you that you can have your soil tested here at our office in Kingston to see how the ph has changed after your amendments.
It is $3 for the first sample and $1 for additional samples.

Thank you, Cynthia S MGV
