Disease or insect issue with Greenspire Linden trees #885208

Asked September 13, 2024, 9:02 PM EDT

I just found an issue with my Greenspire Linden trees.  There are yellow cone-like spikes on some of the leaves, but not all of them.  No other trees nearby, which are a Bradford Pear and a Maple, as well as a Japanese Lillac bush, have any such issues.  Our area has been in a borderline drought for over a month, if that may have something to do with this issue.  Attached is a picture of the issue.

Expert Response

These are galls caused by a mite. These gall-causing mites are often fairly host-specific, which is why you aren't seeing this on other species of trees in the area. They are a cosmetic issue and don't pose a threat to the overall health of the tree.
