White mold #884436

Asked September 07, 2024, 6:43 PM EDT

Is it safe to eat small potatoes that grew from potato plants that had white mold on the stems earlier in the season? The potato plants were treated with an organic fungicide. The small potatoes are firm and show no signs of mold. They were grown in grow bags with soil, straw and pine mulch was used for hilling. Thank you.

Expert Response

Pamela, Thanks for the question. I found information on white mold on potato plant stem. See link below. Whether the potatoes are safe to eat is beyond my training. In my opinion, if there is no mold on the potatoes and cutting them open they look fine and, of course, you will be cooking them so I would eat them without concern. However, I'm not qualified to tell you that they are safe to eat.
