Daphne shrub question #876159

Asked July 06, 2024, 10:23 PM EDT

Hi, I have a Perfume Princess Daphne odora x bholua shrub that I planted last season. It lost all of its leaves over this last winter, and came back only partially with some green leaves on only some of the branches early this spring. I included a photo. It has not changed its appearance since then. Will it ever fully recover? Is there anything I should be doing to help it come back? Thanks! Elizabeth

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Elizabeth.  I am afraid that, without additional information, we cannot tell you what, of several, environmental and/or disease issues may be causing your plant's distress.  Here is a Q & A from another daphne owner with similar issues:  https://depts.washington.edu/hortlib/pal/daphne-odora-care/

Where is your plant located?  How much sun, water, wind and nutrients does it get?  The leaves appear to be pretty healthy, but the stems that have put on no foliage are probably dead, and should be removed.  Perhaps the above answer will help you to fix whatever it is in the environment that isn't "working".  Good luck!
