Poison Ivy #875546

Asked July 01, 2024, 5:27 PM EDT

I have been told by the City of Bloomington that I have Poison Ivy on my property and I need to get rid of it. But, it is living within and around other desirable plants. How do I get rid of it without killing the other plants and how to really ascertain that it's truly poison Ivy and not an imposter or like-alike?

Expert Response

Hi Susan,

All of these are poison ivy.

This page discusses how to identify the plant and methods to remove or kill it. Note the many precautions you should take.

This site has good information on herbicides and how to protect yourself while removing or spraying it:

The herbicides that kill poison ivy can damage good plants, so make sure you spray or paint only leaves of the plant you want to kill. If you're uncomfortable doing this, hire a professional.

Hope this helps.
