tickseed coreopsis won't bloom #873605

Asked June 18, 2024, 12:28 PM EDT

I have a wildly spreading bunch of seemingly healthy tickseed coreopsis. The plants look really good but this is the second year that it is not blooming. I have had it 10 years and most years it has done well.

Expert Response

Amount of sunshine is a key factor.  They must have 6-8+ hours of sunlight.  With the crowding they may not get that.  I would thin them out.  You could also get a soil sample to determine if your soil is lacking anything.

Is it possible they have a disease?  Someone suggested Aster Yellows but the plant looks good except for the fact that the buds never open.

Thanks for your help!

Deformed flowers are a more common sign.  And there are usually other problems as well.  See the following website for more detailed information.
