dogwood leaf disease #873507

Asked June 17, 2024, 5:40 PM EDT

My Venus Dogwood is one year old and the leaves are not looking good. I don't know if it is a fungus or insects. I have attached a picture of 3 leaves from the dogwood. I would like to know how to treat it. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Expert Response

Hello Sandy,

I’m sorry to hear about your dogwood. Cornus ‘Venus’ is a flowering tree that is susceptible to several problems. Read more here: https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=268782

And here: https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/dogwood-diseases-insect-pests/

From the picture, the leaves appear to have anthracnose. However, there are several diseases that affect the tree which can be confused and a more accurate diagnosis and management advice can be provided by MSU Extension’s Plant and Pest Diagnostic Lab. To learn how to submit a sample/photo go to: https://www.canr.msu.edu/pestid/

A certified arborist can accurately assess your tree. To find an arborist in your area, go to www.treesaregood.org, the website of the International Society of Arboriculture.
