what is this weed - giant hogweed? #873271

Asked June 15, 2024, 7:07 PM EDT

This weed is very large, no flowering yet. I looked up giant hogweed and while there are similarities, the leaves don't look quite the same as what I am seeing online. Also, I don't see the ring of white hairs that circle the stem at the base of the leaf stalks.

Expert Response

Hi Elmer and Happy Father's Day,,

Your plant is a weed called Wild Lettuce, Woodland Lettuce or Tall Blue Lettuce (?), not edible.

It likes disturbed ground near other plants. Not reported as invasive.
