Watering of Spring planted Western Red Cedar trees #873208

Asked June 15, 2024, 10:08 AM EDT

We had 3 6 - 8 ft. tall Western Red Cedar trees planted this Spring in an all-day sunny location in our yard. These were placed in an area which was bermed up about 2.5 feet. Now that we are getting in to Summer, we are wondering how much we should be watering each of these trees? We noticed a few edges of branches that seemed to be browning...and thought perhaps this was just from the process of moving and planting in the yard. Now, however, we want to make sure that we are providing all the care these tree need to grow beautifully. Thank you for your hep.

Expert Response

Generally, new transplants will do well if they receive one inch of water a week.  Most of the sources I found indicate that  your tree will thrive in most soil types, but prefer well-drained locations.  The link below offers some specific information on growing conditions for Western Red Cedar.
