Contender Peach Tree fruit #872535

Asked June 10, 2024, 11:29 PM EDT

I planted a Contender Peach tree last spring that I got from the Minneapolis tree lottery. It has done very well in this year. It had lots of flowers and lots of fruit. My question is: the fruit is about 1.5 inches and appears to be ripening (ie turning from all green to having some blush). Is this normal? A friend wondered whether the tree is not yet big enough to sustain all the peaches that have grown from the flowers. Should I remove some of them to allow more energy to just go to a few fruits? If so, how many should I remove?
