Japanese and Coral maples #869028

Asked May 18, 2024, 1:56 PM EDT

We have two Japanese and two Coral maples on our property--10 to 20 years old. They all look healthy and happy. However, we wish they would not grow much larger because they would encroach on areas where we appreciate the sunshine. Some years ago I came across a woman who specialized in pruning Japanese maples, but I didn't get her name or contact information. I've tried searches for someone that specializes in maintaining Japanese maples but come up empty handed. Can you help me find such a person? I'm afraid if I contact any arborist they will simply say, of course, they know how to prune these. But I prefer to hire someone who truly specializes in this work. How to find them?

Thank you for your question.  As a tax-funded agancy, we are prohibited from making recommendations for commercial entities.  I suggest that you either do a certified arborist search, and interview potential professionals (https://www.treesaregood.org/findanarborist/findanarborist), or contact a reputable nursery that specializes in maple trees, to seek their suggestions.  A quick web search turned up several in the metro area.  Alternatively, some garden centers might have suppliers whose expertise they can vouch for.  Good luck!
