Depth of raised beds #868604

Asked May 15, 2024, 5:00 PM EDT

Hi, I am getting into gardening at a cabin I have near Talkeetna. I can't get anything to grow directly in the soil (it never seems to get warm enough) so putting in some raised beds. Wondering how deep they should be? I am looking to do things like raspberries, potatoes, flowers and things like that. I'd like to try planting as many native flowers as possible as well.

Expert Response

The deeper the raised bed the better. I think 12 inches is the minimum.

Apologies for the delay in reply but just wanted to say thank you! I ended up going with 16in depth on my beds.

I think you'll be happy with the 16 inches.
