Biggest hornet I've ever seen #866501

Hi, found this in my house in DC. Was wondering if you could identify for me. Is at least 1.5 inches long. Thanks.

Thanks for reaching out and for sending photos as well. It looks to be a European Hornet. 

Hornets are one of a number of so-called "social wasps" found in this area. While you definitely don't want them in your house, social wasps tend to be non-confrontational and not aggressive unless a nest is disturbed or an individual feels threatened (like being swatted or caught). However, if a threat is perceived, wasps may sting, and individual wasps are capable of stinging repeatedly, unlike honey bees.
