Are you planting peonies bought in pots? If so, yes plant in the ground now. Are you dividing existing peonies and planting the division in a new location? Fall is best, see this web page.

If you urgently need to divide or move a peony now, move as big a root ball as you can manage, be as careful as you can and water well.

Thank you, Linda. I did think of moving some of the peonies in my Minneapolis backyard to the front yard, but now I’ll buy some in pots to plant them out front. Then, come fall, I could thin some of the plants in the backyard and move them, perhaps, depending on the outcome of the spring planting.
