Apple tree from seed #866049

Asked April 26, 2024, 8:23 PM EDT

I planted some pink lady apple seeds about 4 years ago. The tree is about 10 feet tall now and seems pretty healthy. I have heard that apple trees grown from seed don't produce fruit well. Can you provide any information on whether or when I might expect fruit? Thank you.

From these web pages, it looks like 2 or 3 years and you are past that. Do you have any apple trees in the area for cross-pollination? They are required for pollination and of course some pollinators like bees to move pollin from one tree to the other.

Hello Linda,
Thank you for the information.
Can a tree pollinate itself or are multiple trees required?
Thank you.

While AI sources say that there are selfpollinating apple trees, better fruit production occurs with cross-pollination. See this web page. https://treefruit.wsu.edu/orchard-management/pollination/
