Hi, My native salvia is coming up with yellowed leaves on most of the plants that I have. The past two years I have been battling Asters Yellow virus on my coneflowers. Do you think that it could have spread to my Salvia?

Expert Response

We shared your photos with our plant pathologist and we do not think that this is aster yellows.
(The plant is not our native sage either but looks like an ornamental sage similar to Salvia x sylvestris or S. nemorosa. Salvia lyrata, a.k.a Lyre-leaved Sage is our native Salvia.)

Has there been any herbicides used in the bed or nearby? A type of pre-emergent weed product used on grasses/lawns can bleach some plants. It doesn't look extensive or terribly damaging, so we think it is likely it will grow out of it.
