Invasive or aggressive in Minnesota #865915

Asked April 25, 2024, 3:36 PM EDT

I purchased Campanula Blue Waterfall from an online garden center. Now I’m uncertain if this is the creeping bellflower that takes over. The plant I purchased is a ground cover and many online garden centers sell it. I do not want a plant that acts like snow on the mountain or lily of the valley.

Hennepin County Minnesota

Expert Response

The invasive  Creeping bellflower is also known as European bellflower and rampion is a Campanula rapunculoides .  Your Blue Waterfall is Campanula poscharskyana.

You need not worry.  Here are links to both:  https://extension.umn.edu/weeds/creeping-bellflower
