Clear sap on apricot tree #865725

Asked April 24, 2024, 12:33 PM EDT

Hi, I’ve got a healthy looking apricot tree, good growth, good fruit set, bark looks good, foliage looks good, but I’ve noticed a number of blobs of clear amber spots. I can’t see any damage to the tree at the points of sap. Am wondering if you’re able to provide any insight. Thank you!

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Kerry.  Your plant appears to have the bacterial infection described here:  https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/cherry-prunus-spp-bacterial-canker

You should first try the cultural controls listed.  If they do not stop the disease, you can try the chemicals marked "H" (available to homeowners), but the odds aren't good.  Sorry.
