Beets and Radishes #865601

Asked April 23, 2024, 1:39 PM EDT

Hello, I am trying to plant beets and radishes this year in my garden. I live in St. Paul. Do you think it is safe to start planting them now or should I wait longer in case there is another frost? Also, would you recommend filling the soil at all first? Thanks, Berg (she/her)

Expert Response

See the link below for a vegetable planting schedule in your area.  You'll note that it should be safe to plant beets and carrots now. https://extension.umn.edu/planting-and-growing-guides/planting-vegetable-garden#when-to-plant-outside-1975163

You'll want good soil for your vegetables and may need a soil test.  For detailed information on preparing your soil and obtaining a soil test, see https://extension.umn.edu/managing-soil-and-nutrients/composting-home-gardens
