Seeding or sodding after a pre-emergent applied #865427
Asked April 22, 2024, 12:34 PM EDT
We have a number of bare areas on our lawn where we would like to plant see or lay sod. Before we realized it, our lawn care company but down a fertilizer with a pre-emergent. Is it possible to seed or sod sooner than three months after a pre-emergent was applied if we till the soil or add dirt?
Dakota County Minnesota
Expert Response
How soon you can seed or sod will depend on the preemergent product that was used. If it is a timed release chemical then the time may be 3 months. Usually it is 14-21 days wait before seeding.

It is important to follow the label or the new seed won’t germinate. There are so many new products on the market that knowing what the label says is essential and also the label is legally binding.
