American Plum #865331

Asked April 21, 2024, 5:10 PM EDT

I would like to plant two american plums in my backyward along the fence. Can you please tell me how far from the fence they must be and also how closely I can plant them? This is a small yard that gets lots of tending and I will be able to trim them as needed. Thanks.

Expert Response

Prunus americana will get 20' - 25' wide so, unless it's grafted on a dwarfing rootstock or you're planning on training it as an espalier, the tree should be planted at least 13' away from the fence & 25' away from another American Plum.
