We through this guy across the road today. Can you help find the type? Safe or Poisonous?

This is a Northern Watersnake, which is not venomous. If you're curious, the references linked below provide comparisons between similar-looking species as well as life history information. All snakes are fairly shy of people and will not be eager to bite, but Northern Watersnakes have a reputation of being defensive and may be quick to bite if handled or cornered.
