Fat Albert #865135

Asked April 19, 2024, 1:42 PM EDT

So the Fat Albert Spruce is disease tolerant in MN? I know the Colorado Blue Spruce is not disease tolerant in MN anymore. Please advise.

Expert Response

Concolor fir (Abies concolor) and some white spruce are good
large tree alternatives with blue-green foliage to Colorado spruce.
There are also some blue spruce dwarf cultivars that are on the market as well, such as ‘Fat Albert’ (15 feet tall by 3 feet wide).  While no tree or shrub is completely immune to insect or disease attack, Fat Albert seems to be a good alternative.
