Hydrangea care #865129

Asked April 19, 2024, 1:20 PM EDT

Hello, I planted this Glowing Embers Hydrangea in August of last year. It appears to be beginning to produce some leaves near the base.

This is my first hydrangea. Could you please advise how I should care for it this Spring?

Thank you!!

This plant looks good. It weathered well this winter. I can’t tell what the exposure is for fun shade but please make sure it is watered well, fresh rain water is best.  If you haven’t done so perhaps a soil test will help you know what nutrients are in the soil. This information will then tell you if fertilizer is necessary.

The dried stalks can be removed as soon as they “snap” easily at the base. Don’t force them. Applying mulch is a common practice but getting a soil test first is recommended before mulch is applied.  Mulch can hold moisture and heat that may not be necessary.

Keep taking pictures as it grows into spring.
