Our elderberry has wilt--guessing it's verticillium. It begins to wllt in July and plant completely stops growing. Leaves curl & turn black. Do we need to remove the plant? We love the color & leaf shape. Can we plant another where this one was? If yes, it there a variety of elderberry that's resistant/immune to verticillium wilt?
Thank you.

https://extension.wvu.edu/agriculture/horticulture/elderberry I haven’t been able to find any cultivars with resistance. New cultivars are being introduced all the time so it is worth asking for one at nurseries and garden centers like Bachmann’s and Gertens. Sadly, once verticillium is in the soil one should not replant with a susceptible shrub. The plant disease clinic can make an identification and tell you if it’s verticillium before you decide to cut it down.

You are welcome. I hope it isn’t verticillium.
