Please help my rhododendron #864997

Asked April 18, 2024, 1:43 PM EDT

Our yard has lovely OLD rhododendrons. One is not doing well. Maybe it started when my husband cut off some branches that were dying? I haven't reached out for help before, so please let me know if you need anything else.

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Cassandra.  First, it appears that your rhododendrons haven't bee pruned in quite a while.  Here's some information about that:  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/news/give-rhododendrons-azaleas-annual-check-each-spring

Second, the leaves have symptoms of an azalea lace bug infestation, described here:  https://hortsense.cahnrs.wsu.edu/fact-sheet/azalea-azalea-lace-bug/

With time and persistence, you can improve the looks and health of these plants.  Good luck!
