Just found this strange looking plant after removing leaves from my just-emerging fern. Can you identify and advise - let it be or remove it? Many thanks for any insights.

If you are referring to the tall curly growth coming from the center of the fern plant those are your new palm fronds. The ones laying on the ground will turn brown as the new ones develop.
