Large brown patch on lawn, continuing to extend outward #864881

We have a large brown/dead patch of lawn in the front yard. It started off small last fall (maybe 2 feet square), however now it extends into much of our front yard. We are unsure why or what to do about it. Do you have suggestions for what could be causing it and how to go about repairing it? Thank you!
