What kind of spider is this? #864838

Asked April 17, 2024, 9:52 AM EDT

This showed up in my neighbor’s yard. She said it was the size of a 50 cent coin (if anyone remembers how big a 50 cent coin is). It looks like one I saw on my house, but that one was about 4”. (Whatever this one is, will it grow?) Thanks!!

Hi,

Spider ID is difficult since you have to have a really clear look of the eye arrangement. It appears to be a wolf spider, which is native, but there are many other native spiders that look similar.

Regardless it is harmless and a beneficial predator to have around your house eating crickets, mosquitos, ants etc.

It is unlikely you will see this exact spider again but it could get bigger or at least appear larger with its legs splayed out.
