I am going to grow potatoes in a tower box this year. Therefore I have been told I need to plant an indeterminate variety. I keep reading mixed reviews. I need to know if Red Pontiac is Ana indeterminate variety. Also , what about Goldrush Russet? Again, ware mixed answers as I research. Please give me a definitive answer. #864773

Good Morning Beth,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

Please click on the following link from the U of M Extension Yard and Garden website about growing potatoes: https://extension.umn.edu/vegetables/growing-potatoes

We are volunteers who answer yard and garden questions from residents. We are not familiar with each specific potatoe variety.

I also did some internet research on potatoe varieties: https://www.potatoes.com/7-categories-of-potatoes

This information lists the interterminate and determinate varieties: https://www.reneesgarden.com/blogs/gardening-resources/potato-types

Good Luck!
