Zebra plant challenges #864639

Asked April 15, 2024, 4:29 PM EDT

My zebra plant looks healthy on the top and is growing but the leaves all turn brown and fall off. I had it in a south facing window and thought perhaps it was too light so I've moved it to a north facing window. I try to spray it each day as I've read it needs humidity and yet this problem is continuing.

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Irene.  I suspect that your plant is "root bound", and that the roots are too tightly compressed so they cannot absorb enough water and nutrients.  You should get a well-draining container twice the size of this one.  Separate or prune the roots, re-pot in fresh potting soil, and follow the care instructions found here:  https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/aphelandra-squarrosa/
I hope this helps.  Good luck!
