Expert Response

Hi Kathleen,

Spring has advanced so quickly this year it may be too late to prune, but there may well still be time.  Lavender is best pruned in the spring when new green leaves start to appear at the base.  Pruning stimulates new growth of the stems you want.  Assuming new leaves are still emerging higher, you should still get new stem growth, although less than if the pruning were earlier.  At this time, new stem growth should probably be continuing, but that is dependent upon your specific site's environment.

Following are links to lavender in general https://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/yard-garden/growing-lavender-in-colorado-7-245/ and hidecote specifically https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=249421&isprofile=1&basic=lavender.

Thank you for your question.
