Spaghetti squash experiment #864575

Asked April 15, 2024, 11:24 AM EDT

I saved seeds from an excellent organic spaghetti squash I bought last winter. They are spouts in my kitchen window and ready for transplanting. How do I know if they’re hybrids? (I’ll plant them and hope they aren’t cannon balls)

Great experiment. You won't be able to tell if they are hybrids any other way than appearance or taste unless you are a molecular chemist. Unfortunately, spaghetti squash , acorn squash, mota, etc. are all hybrids --many modern, most from way back when. Veggies are constantly being cross-bred into new shapes, new colors, new sizes, etc. and given fancy names with a hope that one will be the next best-seller. Please let us know what happens with your experiment and good luck!
