Maple Tree problem #864450

Asked April 14, 2024, 8:38 AM EDT

I have a very young maple I planted last year showing some unusual black spots on their new leaves this spring that I would like to treat. Sending pictures.

Expert Response

Hi,

It looks like this could be frost damage from the leaves emerging then get a night with some low temperatures that nipped the new growth. There is no treatment for this. Just let the tree grow and as new leaf buds emerge, the older damaged leaves will fall off.

You can monitor for watering needs through the growing season, and if the leaves still show signs of distress, feel free to send additional photos.

Thanks Emily.  I will leave it alone and get back to you if the problem continues.
