How to plant and care for hostas and asiatic lilies in containers? #864433

Asked April 13, 2024, 8:12 PM EDT

I am unable to care for plants in the ground and would like to replant my perennials in containers. How should these be planted and cared for in containers and how to care for them over the winter?

Hennepin County Minnesota

Expert Response

Plant them in containers and care for them in the same way as they grow in the ground. Bring the containers into a garage or someplace that stays just above freezing in the winter.  Or hire someone to countersink the containers into the ground for winter and bring them up again in the spring.

They should be the same. It depends on the company as to which name they use to label their product. Also containers may need watering more often than plants grown in the ground.
