insect identification and elimination #863532

Asked April 06, 2024, 11:53 AM EDT

We have small insects, possibly sugar ants, showing up in out bathroom. We see possibly 2 or 3, or up to 5 or 6 at a time. There is no clear source or path that they follow. What is the best method to get rid of them?

Expert Response

Hi Matthew and thanks for your questions about bugs in your bathroom. I would really need a picture to be sure they are ants. It is kind of unusual for sugar ants to be in a bathroom and there are several other possibilities, like fungus gnats, that would be more likely. Once we really know what they are, we can figure out a solution.

Here is a site that can help you if you decide they really are ants:

Looking forward to pictures,

Hi Matthew and thanks for your picture. Yes, it does look like an ant, but not a sugar ant. I would really like you to catch one and take it in to the Washington County Extension office for ID. If it is a carpenter ant, they will advise you how to deal with it and find the nest. If not, and they are still a problem, they can also advise you on the best treatment.
Sorry to not be more help,
