Fertilizing #862719

Asked March 28, 2024, 11:59 AM EDT

Can I use 10-10-10 plus more nitrogen during the growing phase. And 10-10-10 plus phosphorus and potassium during the flowering phase for my vegetable plants?

Anoka County Minnesota

Expert Response

To know how much to fertilize you will need a soil test. In general 10-10-10 is adequate for most vegetable gardens. There are directions on the label about how much and when to apply it. There are also fertilizers labeled for flowering. If you are on the Anoka sand plain your garden might benefit from an extra boost or benefit from adhering to the fertilization schedule on the package. Most gardens do well without added fertilizer. Most vegetables grow well if the pH is between 6.0-7.8.
