Identifying Egg found in raised bed #862672

Asked March 27, 2024, 6:10 PM EDT

I found an egg buried in one of my raised beds that had been taken over by weeds. I guess it’s a snake egg, but thought for snake eggs I would find many smaller eggs.

Expert Response

Unfortunately we're not certain what animal laid the egg (or when). However, we recommend that you inquire with wildlife biologists at the MD Department of Natural Resources. An email can be sent to <personal data hidden> (especially if you want to share photos) or, if you would like to speak to someone, they have a Wildlife and Heritage Service phone number at<personal data hidden>. The phone line is staffed during regular business hours, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, except state holidays and weekends. If you send them a photo, adding a ruler for scale may help them to narrow-down possible candidates.
