Are these trees healthy? #862531

Asked March 26, 2024, 11:00 AM EDT

I hope this message finds you well. We have three potted trees here in the Education Sciences Building and we are concerned that they are declining in health. We are hoping that you are able to comment on their overall health and provide some tips on how to better take care of them. I attached a photo of each tree. The U's Facilities Management forwarded us to you with the hope that you would be able to help. Currently, we use a Moisture Meter every week and water as needed, but it does not look like it is doing the trick. In particular, one of the taller pine-type trees is losing some large branches that can be seen in one of the photos. We are grateful for any information you can provide. Thank you, Nate

Expert Response

To be blunt, your best move would be to remove all three.  I am not quite sure what varieties you have but they are all reaching for sunlight.  Two might be Norfolk Island Pine but I can't be sure.
Those trees need full sun.  https://www.thespruce.com/grow-norfolk-island-pine-indoors-1902627  The same applies to whatever the other plant/tree is.  Look at plants numbers 6 Parlor Palm, 7 ZZ Plant and 8 Dracaena in this link.  They will easily grow to the correct size for your planters and can survive the low light conditions.  Ready the care instructions.https://easyplant.com/blog/best-low-light-houseplants?
