Cool season grass weed #862485

Asked March 25, 2024, 4:14 PM EDT

Mar 25, 2024, 14:01 CST I thought thre light patches were poa trivialias but when I pulled the weeds out I did not notice stolon branching typical of poa trivialis but instead a more clump like root structure. Harder bottom stalk and clumped roots, hard to pull out from the soil. Can you please tell me what issue I have now in addition to the poa triv that I aklready have in other areas of the lawn Can someone visit my address, I will pay you for your time . Thanks Vince

Vince,
I cannot come and visit you at the moment, but if you send us some of those samples (fresh) to the lab we can identify them. Click this link for the submission protocol. Make sure that you include a couple inches of roots as well as the all of the above ground material for the plant in question.
Can you at least offer some ideas of whats going on please.

Thanks

Poa trivialis (Roughstalk bluegrass) is a common weed in both warm and cool-season turfgrass stands. It may be the number one perennial weed pests in the mid-Atlantic and northeast regions. Currently there are not any selective herbicides that provide complete control. The only real option is to spray glyphosate on the patches and re-seed, sod, or plug.
