diseased ash and maple trees #862473

Asked March 25, 2024, 1:54 PM EDT

I have two ash bore trees with ash bore disease. Plus a maple with wilt disease. Can I use the shredded trunks for garden mold or under pine bush? Cn I pant new trees in the same area due to the diseases?

Expert Response

Please see the link for the reasons why a replacement tree should be at least 3 ft from the old stump. A replacement ash won’t get ash borer from the old stump but if emerald ash borers are in your neighborhood replacement ash will be infected.

Maple wilt is a disease that affect a number of trees and especially maple so planting a tree that is resistant to maple wilt would be best. Please see the link for a list of resistant trees.
