Need suggestions on garden area to rent for dahlias (near Orono/Wayzata) #862413

Asked March 24, 2024, 8:04 PM EDT

Hello! I have just moved from Georgia with a collection of 200 dahlia tubers and our land at our new home in Orono is too shady currently (needs significant work w/ dead tree removal which we will work on this summer). Any suggestions regarding plots of land to rent to plant a portion of my tubers just for this season? I greatly appreciate any ideas!

Expert Response

Thank you for your question. You have an interesting situation and can understand why you'd want to preserve your precious dahlia tubers! I can't offer you an area of land to rent, but Minnesota has many community gardens which you can use - each one is unique and I'm sure you can find one in your Orono/Wayzata area. Here is a link from the MN State Horticultural Society:

Lake Minnetonka has a very active garden club which may be able to guide you to the appropriate source:

Wayzata also has a garden club:

Best of luck to finding an area for your tubers and happy gardening!
