Euonymus #862400

Asked March 24, 2024, 3:49 PM EDT

Hello. I have what I think is a Green Spire euonymus. Can you tell me what this growth on one of the branches is, and if I should do anything about it? I'm sorry that the photo is not better. Thank you! Debra

Expert Response

Unfortunately the photo is out of focus for the area we are trying to zoom in on. You can try to send a clearer photo. Because the camera is trying to focus on different branches, you can help it focus on the main stem by sliding a piece of paper behind the main stem with the growth.

It does not look like crown gall though, and probably adventitious roots that stopped growing at some point. Adventitious roots are common on Euonymus. They could be growing for various reasons; the shrub stays damp in the inner branches from either poor air circulation or crowding or being wet often with a sprinkler in summer.

If it is not crown gall and the plant appears to otherwise be growing normally, you don't need to do anything as it won't affect growth.

Thank you very much! I already tossed the branch so I can't get a better photo. It does seem to be adventitious roots. I appreciate your help!
