What can I do to fix black spots on my 3 Star Jasmine vines. They are now 8 years old and have been performing wonderfully up until this. They have grown quite large and lush. Should I trim them back and then use a fungicide? Or should I pull them out and refresh the soil and start over? Or are there other or better options?

Expert Response
Thank you for your question, Mary. We cannot identify plant diseases (or insect infestations) without clear, up close photos of both the top and underside of the plant's leaves. There are just too many possibilities, and, unless there is a fungal infection, fungicides won't help. Here is an article containing the list of potential culprits: https://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/GARDEN/PLANTS/starjasmine.html
You can either reply with such a photo, take some plant samples into the Clackamas County Extension office (https://extension.oregonstate.edu/clackamas) when Master Gardeners are there, or send leaf samples to the OSU Plant Clinic (https://bpp.oregonstate.edu/how-submit-plant-materials)
Good luck!

Hello - here are some pictures of the Star Jasmines - all 3 have the same problem. Thanks so much!
Thank you, Mary. I must give you the same advice that another expert provided to a Marion County homeowner about this time last year: https://ask2.extension.org/kb/faq.php?id=825025#:~:text=Jasmine%20is%20susceptible%20to%20a,in%20certain%20circumstances%20cause%20death.
I would, however, suggest that you submit a sample to the Plant Clinic (see above), where they might be able to identify the most effective pesticide to help solve the problem(s). Good luck!
